RANS is happy to announce its sponsorship of the 2009 RAAM. The four member team will be leaving from Ocean Side California on June 20th.
Team members are:
This is one very experienced team so expectations are running high. At the very least it will be an exciting race, with the intent to set a record. The bike in play is actually two, the F-5 and the new X-Stream. Among the X-Streams is on made of titanium, so this will be a good test run for both man and machine.
We are very happy to be involved in this years race, it was something we have been hoping and dreaming of for several years. The X-Stream was actually designed with the intention to race, and as many know this bike took several years to bring to market. We call it a mid-racer since the seat height is nearly in the middle between high and low racers. What the bike brings to the race is long wheel base riding comfort, something useful when you are spending 24/7 on the bike, and the aero-dynamics of the high-racer. The team has had the bikes for several weeks now getting it tune and exploring the potential. So far so good, the Davis Challenge proved the teams’ ability to blow everyone away in terms of miles covered within the time limit. Now we are attempting to reach the ultimate goal of being the first four man team across the finish line in Atlantic City. This is no small task as in the past 4 man teams cover the country in less than 6 days. The current record was set in 2004 by a team called Action Sports. Kerry Ryan, Nat Faulkner, Sean Nealy, and Billy Innes made the trip in 5 days, 8 hours and 17 minutes. That is an average of 23.06 MPH. That is smoking!
Join the fun of following the race via postings and photos provide by Larry Varney. Larry is an expert at on reporting in a way to bring the most color to the event. It should be an exciting race against the not only the many 4 man teams, but the previous record. Please visit the RAAM site and if you feel inclined donate a few bucks to the teams’ charitable cause.
