The Seavo is a new tandem recumbent from RANS with an emphasis on increased comfort and performance. Outstanding features include, more aggressive geometry for better aerodynamics and power extraction, dual 26” wheels, use of standard tandem MTB fork, and 203 disc brakes. A specific feature is folding seats. This allows the seat pan (which is carbon) to adjust in angle or to lay flat for transport. TIG welded in the USA, the frame is 4130 and over a pound lighter than the Screamer, and with ample X-seam to allow one size frame to fit most all.
Power extraction is emphasized in the design of the chain handling. A passive drive side idler is all that encumbers the rear chain and no drive side idler impedes the timing chain. A simple tension system that moves the idler vertically allows for fine tuning with ease.
Standard and TR versions of the Seavo are offered along with a spectrum of colors ranging from silver, yellow, black, and orange.
Riding the bike you will immediately notice the handling is very sure footed and rock solid in torsion. It feels very compact while riding, spunky and fun to crank and bank. The big front wheel makes sense for tandems, providing less rolling resistance and a smoother ride. It is a clean, impressive bike, which I feel ups the standard as to what tandem recumbents should be. Steerage is provided by a set of B-39 bars right out of the F-5 project, and in fact the cockpit of the Seavo is of F-5 geometry. The stoker will enjoy the familiar layout of the Stratus cockpit, so in effect you have the fusion of the two fine bikes made into one great tandem. The bike is provided with a flip-it which allows fine tuning bar location.
What will happen to the Screamer? It is about more choices, and the Screamer is not by any means obsolete. We continue offer the Screamer, updating and improving it. The Seavo is really a great addition to the line and not at this point seen as a supersede measure.
Delivery of the new bike is out there, since we are really covered up with orders for all our domestic made products, but the first salvo of the super sleek Seavo is planned to be in stores by mid June. If you are interested in this bike, prompt your dealer to order today and beat the spring rush…Seavo, a new way to pair down the road!
