A Do It Yourself
Screamer Idler Improvement
by Randy Schlitter
Sometimes that old
saying about being to close too the forest to see the trees really
hits home. A Screamer owner sent some wonderful suggestions on how
to improve the idler system. Since the bike?s inception the idler
has been a ?work in progress?. Most have had good luck with the
current system. However there are always a percentage of users that
beats the stats.
In this case the
solution was so simple and staring us in the face it was laughable.
The trick is to remove the arm and reposition it so both idler
wheels manage the lower chain. Using a slightly longer bolt, spacers
and washers you can convert your idler in minutes.
The photo shows the
old and new side by side. Note how the chain routing is well clear
of the front brake still has plenty of space between upper and lower
chains. Look for more
performance improvements for the Screamer as we near spring. I am sure you?ve guessed we will be trying shave some pounds
installing Z-Seats, and some other mods in attempt to hot rod the
Screamer, see you next month and ride safe! - Randy
